Bakersfield Recovery Station will be a 10-space program in Bakersfield, CA. The Recovery Station will promote wellness and recovery in a welcoming setting while providing law enforcement a diversion for person who are acutely under the influence of alcohol or drugs and who possibly might also have a co-occurring condition. Rather than being arrested, community members will be presented with an opportunity for peer engagement, assessment, brief clinical interventions and linkage with community-based services. As an integral member of the team, you will help provide services to the community that are strength-based, empowering, and person-centered. The average length of stay will be 8-10 hours.

Shift: AM 7am - 11am

Days: Monday - Friday

POSITION SUMMARY

The SUTS Counselor provides substance use treatment services to clients including individual and group counseling, family counseling, assessment, treatment and discharge planning, case management, linkages, referrals, and other supportive services to adults.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

o High school diploma or G.E.D. and two (2) years’ experience in a drug and/or alcohol treatment environment; or one (1) year’ experience for candidates with a certificate in drug and alcohol studies

o Registered Alcohol and Drug Technician (RADT), or Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) level 1 or 2, or Registered Addiction Specialist (RAS) credential with an alcohol and drug certifying organization approved for billing by the Department of Health Care Services (DHCS)

o Must maintain active status of licensure and continuing education as required by licensing board

o Experience facilitating groups, conducting intakes and providing individual counseling with adult population

o Demonstrated sensitivity to behavioral health issues and multi-cultural populations (e.g., exposure through family relationships, volunteering, or other previous experience(s) or coursework)

o Strong focus and passion to provide excellent customer service

· Must be at least 18 years of age

· Must be CPR, Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI), and First Aid certified on date of employment or within 60 days of employment and maintain current certification throughout employment

o All opportunities at Telecare are contingent upon successful completion and receipt of acceptable results of the applicable post-offer physical examination, 2-step PPD test for tuberculosis, acceptable criminal background clearances, excluded party sanctions, and degree or license verification. Thisposition requires driving, valid driver’s license, a motor vehicle clearance and proof of auto insurance is required at time of employment and must be maintained throughout employment. Additional regulatory, contractual or local requirements may apply

Preferred:

o Associate or Bachelor’s degree

o One-year practical experience in drug and alcohol or mental health field

o Knowledge of the needs of individuals diagnosed with co-occurring disorders and substance abuse

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

· Demonstrates the Telecare mission, purpose, values, and beliefs in everyday language and contact with the internal and external stakeholders

· Adheres to Drug Medi-Cal, DHCS, and Telecare Corporation’s standards of care and timelines

· Must meet minimum established productivity standards of direct client treatment services, including individual, group, collateral, and crisis services for clients

· Conducts admissions, intakes, ALOCs, assessments, treatment plans, and discharge planning in support of client flow within the contractually specified timelines

· Facilitates weekly process and education groups based on structured, evidence-based curriculum

· Conducts individual, group, and family sessions per contractual obligations

· Writes thorough and goal-oriented client treatments plans, assessments, and progress notes in accordance with current state and county regulations and statutes, and with Telecare Corporation’s policies and procedures

· Participates in all case conferences and in collaboration with other professionals overseeing the client’s case; and links clients to resources in the community

· Ensures compliance with state and federal laws and regulations, including but not limited to; client confidentiality, incidence reporting, non-discrimination in the provision of services, risk management policy and Telecare Corporation policies and procedures

· Attends and participates in community meetings and groups

· Helps create a recovery environment through interactions with staff and members served

· Demonstrates knowledge of management of assaultive behavior techniques

· Responds to emergency/crisis situations

· Collects urine samples from members served, as assigned

· Assists with outings for members served by driving Program van and/or own vehicle

· If employed at outpatient program, must evade members served in the event of assaultive behavior and pass assault crisis/crisis prevention training


For Voluntary Residential Substance Use Programs:

o Adheres to DHCS, and Telecare Corporation’s standards of care and timelines

o Observes and documents in file for members undergoing non-medical social detoxification every thirty (30) minutes

o Monitors the self-administration of medications and documents in members’ file

o No Restraints will be used in Substance use Treatment Programs

Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted and/or changed at the discretion of management.

SKILLS

· Knowledge of basic psychiatric rehabilitation interventions

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team as well as alone

· Bilingual and proficient in reading and writing in one or more languages

For Voluntary Residential Substance Use Treatment Programs:

o Knowledge of basic addition interventions

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

The employee is occasionally required to sit, bend, squat, kneel, crawl, twist, push, pull and lift and carry items weighing 50 pounds or less as well as to frequently walk, stand, twist, reach and to do simple and power grasping. The position requires manual deviation, repetitive and dexterity, as well as driving, exposure to uneven walking ground, and hazardous exposure (blood borne pathogens, hospital waste, chemicals, and infections).
