As part of the Telecare family, the Thurston Mason Mobile Crisis program combines a comprehensive set of outreach services to provide an alternative level of intervention and follow up services to stabilize individuals in crisis to remain in the community and move toward recovery. To provide this set of outreach services, we are now developing a comprehensive bundle of services to work conjointly to engage this high-risk population.These services include – Mobile Outreach Teams, Intensive Case Management Services, Peer Support, and linkages to community resources and outpatient treatment. The end goal is to provide effective prevention and intervention strategies for those most at risk in order to reduce or prevent more acute illness, high-risk behaviors, incarceration, and other emergency medical or crisis responses.

Employment Status:On Call, Per Diem

Starting Salary Range $15.05 - $16.59/hr

POSITION SUMMARY

The Peer Recovery Coaches engage, inspire, and facilitate meaningful conversations with participants which assist the person to explore, create and meet their own recovery goals. Peer Recovery Coaches provide consultation to the team to promote and reinforce Telecare’s Recovery Culture as defined by the Telecare Recovery Centered Clinical System (RCCS) in which each participants’ point of view and preferences are recognized, understood, respected and integrated into services and self-help programming. Additionally, Peer Recovery Coaches will respond to critical situations with a high level engagement and de-escalation skills which support a least restrictive environment for individuals experiencing an emergency related to a mental health/addiction challenge.


QUALIFICATIONS
Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Certified Peer Specialist and/or completed Peer Support Training
  • Two (2) years or part-time equivalent of experience supporting individuals with behavioral health challenges
  • Experience as a recipient of the public Behavioral Health system of care
  • Successful completion of Peer Support Training or Peer Employment Training
  • Must be CPR, ProAct or CPI and First Aid certified on date of employment or within 60 days of employment and maintain current certification throughout employment
  • All opportunities at Telecare are contingent upon successful completion and receipt of acceptable results of the applicable post-offer physical examination, 2-step PPD test for tuberculosis, acceptable criminal background clearances, excluded party sanctions, and degree or license verification. If the position requires driving, valid driver license, a motor vehicle clearance and proof of auto insurance is required at time of employment and must be maintained throughout employment. Additional regulatory, contractual or local requirements may apply

Preferred:

  • Demonstrated ability to perform at a consistently high level as a support worker in a healthcare field
  • Bilingual/Bicultural a plus

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Demonstrate the Telecare mission, purpose, values and beliefs in everyday language and contact with the internal and external stakeholders
  • If employed at Inpatient program, must assist with restraint of clients in the event of assaultive behavior and pass assault crisis/crisis prevention training
  • If employed at Outpatient program, must evade clients in the event of assaultive behavior and pass assault crisis/crisis prevention training
  • Draw upon own personal recovery experience with mental/addiction challenges as means to engage in common experiences with the participants as a peer and to validate participants’ own lived experiences
  • Consistently utilizes recovery language and a strength-based approach to assist participants to reach their fullest potential
  • Participate in the planning, organizing and co-facilitating of Recovery Centered Clinical Service (RCCS) materials, self-help and recovery education groups
  • Provide education and expertise from a mental health participant perspective to the team concerning various mental health/addiction recovery experiences
  • Participate in verbal de-escalation and physical interventions in emergent situations and be willing and able to assist other staff as needed to maintain a safe, healing environment for all
  • Travel locally to provide outreach to participants in the community
  • Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted and/or changed at the discretion of management.

SKILLS

  • Knowledge of recovery focused, strengths based work in mental health/addiction recovery
  • Be willing to seek to understand each participant’s unique circumstances and personal preferences and goals and incorporate them into daily work with the person as well as any needed crisis response to help the participant regain a sense of control
  • Have a strong understanding of recovery and resilience, the value of participant partnerships and participant choice, and the balance between protection from harm and personal dignity
  • Strong knowledge of relevant community resources and methods for accessing them

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
The employee is occasionally required to stand,twist, squat, kneel, crawl, climb and lift and carry items weighing 25 pounds or less as well as to frequently sit, walk, reach, bend and do simple and firm grasping of up to 50 pounds. The position requires manual deviation, repetition and dexterity
